A jockey is an athlete who rides horses in horse racing or steeplechase racing, primarily as a profession.Jockeys normally only weigh around 50 - 58 kg (heavier for steeplechase racing) and must ride at the correct weights which are assigned to their mounts. Jockeys are normally self employed and nominated by horse trainers to ride their horses in races, for a fee (which is paid regardless of the prize money the horse earns for a race) and a cut of the purse winnings. Jockeys often have jockey managers who normally orgainses their rides.
